The property around Mt Tully Cottage has been a nature refuge for nearly 20 years. This is an permanent and binding agreement with the Minister for Environment that we will protect the natural bushland as a refuge for the plants and animals here. The bushland is home to many birds, including a lot of species that live on insects, which are free to live here without pesticides and with habitat and nesting places.

Our nature refuge is part of the network of reserves in Queensland’s Granite Belt Bioregion.

The Granite Belt Bioregion is one of the most poorly protected parts of Queensland, with only 3% in national park, and two-thirds of the native vegetation cleared. So private protected areas like this play an important role in conserving wildlife and maintaining connectivity with other bushland.
